We are a strong people. 

We are resilient. We are resourceful. We are colorful. We have overcome so much. 

And that's worth celebrating. 

That’s why we take pride in our culture and our achievements. 

For many of us, the US is all we’ve ever known, even if we grew up with our parents’ or grandparents’ stories of a faraway land with different customs, different languages, different foods. 

Some of us have only known this land as our ancestral home, while others started a new life here after having built their life in another country. 

Some of us miss the families we left behind. And some of us will never be able to see them again or even for the first time. 

Yet no matter the details of our stories, the way our family cooks the corn or the squash, or how long we have called this place home, we come together as one. 

Because our culture is a healing salve. 

When we return to community, we have an opportunity to heal ancestral wounds. To heal and grow our relationships with each other. And to help each other flower beautifully. 

When we come together, we recognize ourselves in each other’s eyes. We recognize family in each other’s sayings. And we recognize home in each other’s dishes. 

That communal healing through culture is at the root of CPLC’s Family Empowerment programs. 

When we come together through our Amanecer Prevention Program, young people looking for guidance can connect with a mentor and learn more deeply about the richness of their culture. 

When we come together at our youth and adult basketball tournaments, participants gain access to a healthy outlet and safe environment where they can spend their weekend. 

When we come together at our holiday celebrations at the CPLC Community Center, neighbors become friends, and friends, familia. 

And when we come together through our Family Assistance program, we support the families and individuals in our neighborhood who need a little extra community love. 

Join us. Return to community. Connect with your culture. 

And let’s celebrate our community’s strength, our resilience, our creativity, our ingenuity, our joy, our beauty, and the depth of our love for one another. 

We’ve walked so far, overcoming obstacles we didn’t know we were capable of. 

And we have so much to be proud of.
